So our best day trip this summer I think has to go to Caldey Island!!
The boys absolutely LOVED the boat rides to and from the island and exploring the island itself!!
On the island there is an eclectic mix of nature, with the woodlands that are home to red squirrels. The beautiful beaches that look like something from a foreign holiday brochure. Then history and religion with liberal doses with the ancient church and the more modern Italianate abbey. The old farm houses and buildings, home to a small flock of sheep apparently though we did not see them and some ponies who we did see grazing the fields. Finally sea faring life, with the Watchtower and the Lighthouse!
Taking our own lunches etc meant we only shelled out on fuel, parking and the crossing boats, oh and the obligatory ice creams!!
